UGC NET June 2026

National Testing Agency conducts UGC-NET June 2026 on behalf of the University Grants Commission.

UGC-NET is an eligibility examination for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admission under the qualification categories specified by UGC.

The examination is conducted in Computer Based Test mode. Paper I and Paper II are held together in one session of three hours without a break.

General, Unreserved and General-EWS candidates ordinarily require at least 55% marks in a Master's Degree or equivalent examination from a recognised university or institution.

OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, PwBD and Third Gender candidates require at least 50% marks in the Master's Degree or equivalent examination. Rounding off is not permitted.

Candidates pursuing or awaiting their Master's Degree result may apply provisionally, subject to completing the qualification within the period specified in the Information Bulletin.

Candidates with a four-year or eight-semester bachelor's degree require 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grade, subject to applicable relaxation. Candidates qualifying through this route are eligible for JRF and Ph.D. admission but not for appointment as Assistant Professor.

For JRF, the age limit is not more than 30 years as on 01 June 2026, subject to applicable relaxation. There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor or Ph.D. admission.

UGC-NET June 2026 is not a direct recruitment advertisement. Therefore, no direct vacancy count is notified in this Information Bulletin.

Qualification in UGC-NET establishes eligibility under the applicable JRF, Assistant Professor or Ph.D. admission category. Recruitment or admission thereafter is governed by the concerned institution and applicable rules.

The Computer Based Test consists of two papers with all questions compulsory.

For result consideration, General and General-EWS candidates must secure at least 40% aggregate marks in both papers together, while SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD, PwBD and Third Gender candidates require at least 35% aggregate marks.

The number of candidates qualified for Assistant Professor eligibility is determined according to the UGC result procedure, including subject-wise and category-wise cut-offs.

UGC-NET itself does not offer a salaried government post. Salary is not applicable to the examination itself.

Candidates qualifying for JRF may become eligible for fellowship under applicable UGC schemes subject to placement in an eligible university, IIT or institution.

Candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor eligibility are governed by the recruitment rules of the concerned university, college, institution or State Government.
