For regular Government Inter College posts, candidates generally need a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject and an NCTE-recognized B.Ed.. All qualifications had to be held by the application closing date.
Common GIC subjects: Sociology, Geography, Economics, Civics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Urdu and Sanskrit require a postgraduate degree in the concerned subject plus B.Ed.
History: Postgraduate degree in Ancient History, Medieval History or Modern History plus B.Ed.
Biology: Postgraduate degree in Botany or Zoology plus B.Ed.
Hindi: Postgraduate degree in Hindi, Sanskrit as a graduation-level subject and B.Ed.
Sparsh / Samekit posts: Postgraduate degree in the subject; prescribed RCI-recognized B.Ed. Special Education or M.Ed. in visual or hearing impairment; Braille or sign-language knowledge; and RCI registration as a special educator.
Jail Training School — Psychology: Master's degree in Psychology with the prescribed criminal-psychology, criminology, social-pathology or social-disorganization component.
Jail Training School — Criminology and Penology: Master's degree in Sociology, Social Work, Anthropology or Psychology with the prescribed sociology or social-pathology and criminology, penology or criminal-psychology papers.
The standard age limit is 21 to 40 years as on 1 July 2025. This corresponds to the standard date-of-birth range from 2 July 1985 to 1 July 2004, subject to notified relaxation.
Uttar Pradesh reserved categories: Upper-age relaxation applies under the relevant state rules.
Persons with Disabilities: Additional relaxation applies subject to the notified maximum age and identified-post conditions.
Ex-servicemen and covered service categories: Relaxation requires the prescribed service records and certificates.
Candidates outside Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh reservation and related age benefits are not available solely on an outside-state reserved-category certificate.

Selection is through a Preliminary objective examination followed by a Main written examination. Final selection is based on written-examination performance and verification of eligibility. No interview is prescribed for the regular GIC Lecturer selection.
