Southern Railway has invited online applications under Notification No. 01/2026 for engagement of 4,471 Act Apprentices, comprising 163 Fresher and 4,308 Ex-ITI slots in various trades and divisions/workshops. Applications are open from 28 August 2026 to 27 September 2026 up to 5:00 PM. Selection is through merit based on Matriculation, ITI or eligible Higher Secondary marks, followed by document verification and medical fitness.

Qualification
Qualification varies by apprenticeship category and trade. Fresher candidates for Fitter, Painter and Welder require Class 10 with minimum 50% aggregate marks. Fresher Medical Laboratory Technician candidates require Class 12 with minimum 50% aggregate marks with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Ex-ITI candidates generally require Class 10 with minimum 50% aggregate marks along with ITI/National Trade Certificate in the relevant trade issued by NCVT or SCVT. Separate qualification conditions apply to Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Secretarial Assistant/Stenographer, ICTSM and COPA/PASAA trades.
Salary / Stipend
Monthly stipend: Fresher Class 10 category Rs. 8,200; Fresher Class 12 category Rs. 9,600; Ex-ITI category Rs. 9,600. During the second year of apprenticeship, the prescribed minimum stipend is increased by 10%, and during the third year by a further 15%, wherever applicable.

For Ex-ITI candidates, rebate in training duration is governed by the applicable Apprenticeship Rules. During the second year, the prescribed minimum stipend increases by 10%, and during the third year it increases by a further 15% where applicable.

Candidates must satisfy the prescribed physical and medical fitness standards for apprenticeship training. A medical certificate in the prescribed format from an authorized Government medical practitioner is required at document verification.
PwBD candidates must select only a disability category compatible with the concerned designated trade and produce the prescribed disability certificate from the competent authority.
Only candidates residing within the prescribed geographical jurisdiction of Southern Railway are eligible. The notification covers Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and specified districts/areas of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
