RRC Western Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026

Railway Recruitment Cell, Western Railway has released Employment Notice No. RRC/WR/01/2026 (Sports Quota) dated 27 August 2026 for recruitment against Open Advertisement Sports Quota for the year 2026-27.

Western Railway has notified a total of 64 Sports Quota posts comprising 21 Group C-level posts under Pay Levels 5/4 and 3/2 and 43 erstwhile Group D posts under Pay Level 1.

There is no reservation of vacancies for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD or Ex-Servicemen under this open Sports Quota advertisement. However, prescribed fee concessions or refunds are available to specified categories.

Application Fee: Rs. 500 for general candidates. Candidates found eligible and actually appearing in the trial will receive a refund of Rs. 400 after deduction of applicable bank charges.

SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Disability, Women, Minorities and eligible Economically Backward Class candidates pay Rs. 250. The amount is refundable after deduction of bank charges if the candidate is found eligible and actually appears in the trial.

For this fee concession, Economically Backward Class means a candidate whose annual family income is below Rs. 50,000.

Vacancies are available in Athletics Men and Women, Cricket Men and Women, Diving Men and Women, Football Men, Gymnastics Men, Hockey Women, Powerlifting Women, Swimming Men, Weightlifting Men and Wrestling Men Freestyle. Cricket Men, Cricket Women and Football Men have 2 posts each; the remaining notified disciplines have 1 post each.

Level 1 vacancies cover Athletics, Ball Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Body Building, Cycling, Hockey, Handball, Kho-Kho, Powerlifting, Swimming, Volleyball, Water Polo and Weightlifting in the notified men's or women's disciplines.

Grand Total: 5 + 16 + 43 = 64 posts.

Candidates must possess Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University.

Candidate must have passed 12th or equivalent, OR Matriculation with Course Completed Act Apprenticeship, OR Matriculation with ITI approved by NCVT/SCVT.

Candidate must possess 10th pass, ITI, equivalent qualification or National Apprenticeship Certificate granted by NCVT.

Candidates awaiting results of the final examination of the prescribed educational qualification are not eligible to apply.

Age Limit: 18 to 25 years as on 01 January 2027. Candidates born between 01 January 2002 and 01 January 2009, both dates inclusive, are eligible subject to all other conditions.

Applicants must possess the recognized sports achievement prescribed for the relevant Pay Level, discipline, event, weight category or playing position. The specific event or position should be entered correctly in the online application.

As a general rule, only sports achievements acquired in recognized championships from 01 April 2024 up to 27 August 2026 will be considered, subject to specific exceptions and additional eligibility rules prescribed for individual sports.

The candidate should have represented India in the Senior Olympic Games or secured at least third position in specified major international competitions such as World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics or other events listed in the notification.

Eligible achievements include representation in specified international competitions, prescribed medal positions in Commonwealth or Asian Championships, at least third position in recognized Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships or National Games, at least third position in All India Inter-University Championship, or first position in the Federation Cup Senior Championship, subject to the detailed discipline-specific norms.

Eligible achievements include participation in specified international events, at least third position in Federation Cup Senior Championship or representation of a State or equivalent unit with the prescribed performance in Senior National Championships, subject to the exact sport-specific rules in the notification.

Candidates must obtain at least 25 out of 40 marks in the Sports Trial to be declared FIT and considered for further assessment. Candidates declared NOT FIT will not be assessed further.

Overall minimum qualifying marks are 70 for Level 5/4, 65 for Level 3/2 and 60 for Level 1. Appointment is offered purely on merit. In case of equal total marks, the younger candidate receives preference.

Selected candidates will be appointed against 7th CPC Pay Levels 5/4, 3/2 or 1 depending upon the vacancy for which they are selected. Initial appointment will carry the minimum pay of the applicable level plus admissible Railway allowances.

Selected candidates can be posted anywhere on Western Railway and will have to undergo prescribed training wherever applicable. Only applicable stipend is payable during training.

Selected candidates are required to execute a five-year Service Bond at the time of appointment. Appointment is also subject to Railway medical fitness, verification of educational and other certificates, and verification of antecedents and character.

Candidates applying for more than one discipline, game, event or Pay Level must submit separate applications with separate application fees.

Western Railway has notified 64 Sports Quota vacancies for 2026-27.

Candidates must be 18 to 25 years old as on 01 January 2027.

Level 5/4 requires Graduation, Level 3/2 requires 12th or the prescribed Matric plus apprenticeship/ITI route, and Level 1 requires 10th, ITI, equivalent qualification or NAC. The prescribed sports qualification is compulsory for every level.

The notified selection scheme is based primarily on sports trial and assessment of recognized sports achievements and educational qualification. The advertisement does not prescribe a conventional written examination.

Candidates need at least 70 marks for Level 5/4, 65 marks for Level 3/2 and 60 marks for Level 1 in the overall 100-mark assessment.

Eligible general candidates who actually appear in the trial can receive Rs. 400 out of the Rs. 500 fee after applicable bank charges. Eligible candidates paying the concessional Rs. 250 fee can receive the applicable amount back after bank charges if they actually appear in the trial.
