Railway Recruitment Cell, East Coast Railway has invited online applications for 1,599 Act Apprentice slots for 2026-27 in various designated trades across its divisions, workshops and Headquarters units. Matriculation or Class 10 under the 10+2 examination system with minimum 50% aggregate marks from a recognised Board and ITI or National Trade Certificate in the relevant designated trade from NCVT/SCVT, subject to special qualification requirements for certain trades.
Salary / Stipend
Selected apprentices will receive stipend at the prescribed rate during apprenticeship training as per extant Railway Board rules and instructions.

Railway Recruitment Cell, East Coast Railway has issued Notification No. ECOR/Pers/RRC/Act Apprentice/2026-27 dated 21 August 2026 for engagement of 1,599 Act Apprentices in designated trades at various divisions, workshops and units under East Coast Railway for the year 2026-27.
The engagement is governed by the Apprentices Act, 1961 and applicable Apprenticeship Rules. Apprenticeship training is not regular Railway employment and completion of training does not create an automatic right to appointment in Railways.

Application fee is Rs. 100 for candidates required to pay the fee. SC, ST, PwBD and Women candidates are exempt from payment of application fee.
For most designated trades, candidates must have passed Matriculation or Class 10 with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognised Board and possess the prescribed ITI or National Trade Certificate in the relevant trade from NCVT/SCVT as applicable.
Candidates must already possess the required qualification on the date of notification. Applicants whose Class 10 or ITI result was awaited on 21 August 2026 are not eligible.
Medical Laboratory Technician Pathology requires 12th under the 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and minimum 50% marks in both Class 10 and Class 12.
Secretarial Assistant and Stenography candidates must possess the prescribed National Trade Certificate approved by NCVT.
Computer Operator and Programming Assistant candidates must possess the applicable prescribed technical training or National Trade Certificate approved by NCVT/SCVT.
Applicants must have completed 15 years and must not have completed 24 years as on 15 September 2026.
SC and ST candidates: 5 years upper-age relaxation.
OBC candidates: 3 years upper-age relaxation.
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: 10 years upper-age relaxation.
Ex-Servicemen receive relaxation as prescribed in the detailed notification.
The notification contains a total of 1,599 apprenticeship slots across various East Coast Railway units.
Carriage Repair Workshop, Mancheswar, Bhubaneswar: 250 posts.
Rayagada Division: 292 posts.
Khurda Road Division including ELS Angul and IOH Depot: 773 posts.
Sambalpur Division including Coaching BLGR: 262 posts.
East Coast Railway Headquarters, Bhubaneswar: 22 posts.
Category-wise grand total is UR 633, SC 251, ST 116, OBC 435 and EWS 164. The notification also shows 50 PwBD and 42 Ex-Servicemen horizontal reservation slots within the overall vacancy distribution.
Trades include Fitter, Welder, Turner, Machinist, Electrician, Carpenter, Painter, Mechanic Diesel, Secretarial Assistant Stenography, Black Smith, Driller, Bridge Erector, Sheet Metal Worker, Electronics Mechanic, Wireman, Refrigeration and AC Mechanic, Plumber, Draftsman Civil, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Laboratory Technician Pathology, Sarang, Grinder, Mason and Draftsman Mechanic.
Selection will be made through a merit list based on Matriculation marks. The notification does not prescribe a written examination or interview.
Merit will be prepared on the percentage of marks obtained in Matriculation, subject to the minimum 50% aggregate eligibility condition.
Marks of all subjects shown in the Matriculation mark sheet will be considered for percentage calculation.
In case of equal marks, the older candidate will be given preference.
If marks and date of birth are identical, preference will be given to the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification and must satisfy the prescribed medical fitness requirements.
Selected candidates will undergo apprenticeship training for the period prescribed under the applicable apprenticeship rules. Apprentices will receive a monthly stipend at the prescribed rate according to extant Railway Board rules and instructions.
No hostel accommodation will be provided. Selected apprentices are required to make their own accommodation arrangements during training.
Selected applicants must enter into a Contract of Apprenticeship before commencement of training. Completion of apprenticeship does not guarantee regular employment in East Coast Railway or Indian Railways.

Candidates awaiting Class 10 or ITI results on the notification date are not eligible.
Ensure that the ITI or trade qualification exactly corresponds to the trade selected in the application.
Only one online application should be submitted by each candidate.
A candidate can choose only one Division or Workshop and one trade.
OBC candidates claiming reservation should possess the prescribed OBC-NCL certificate and declaration in Central Government format.
EWS candidates should possess a valid Income and Asset Certificate in the prescribed format.
Marks and certificate details entered online must exactly match the original documents produced during Document Verification.
