India Post GDS Schedule-II Recruitment 2026

Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications has issued Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS dated 20 August 2026 for Gramin Dak Sevak Online Engagement Schedule-II, July-2026.

The recruitment covers 23,757 tentative vacancies for Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak posts across different Postal Circles and Divisions in India.

Circle-wise vacancy data has been consolidated for quick reference below. Candidates should still verify the exact Division, Office, Post ID, category, local language and post preference available to them on the GDS Online Engagement Portal before submitting the application.

Only one registration per candidate is permitted. Multiple or duplicate registrations or applications may result in cancellation of candidature.

During the correction window, eligible registration and application details can be edited. The registered mobile number and email ID cannot be changed.

The above Circle totals include separate language-based vacancy groups wherever applicable, such as Assam, Maharashtra, North Eastern, Punjab and West Bengal Circles. Final Division and Post ID-wise vacancies available to an applicant depend on category, age, PwBD status and the local language studied.

BPM duties include day-to-day postal operations of the Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank, marketing and promotion of Department products and services, customer service activities, mail conveyance and delivery where applicable, and other duties assigned by the Department.

A candidate selected as BPM must arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at his or her own cost before engagement and is required to reside in the post village.

ABPM duties include sale of stamps and stationery, conveyance and delivery of mail, IPPB deposits and payments, assisting the BPM in postal operations, marketing, customer service activities and other duties assigned by superior officers.

Dak Sevaks may be engaged in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices, Delivery Centres or other Department offices. Their duties can include handling and delivery of mail and parcels, postal and IPPB transactions, business procurement and assistance in smooth functioning of postal offices.

Applicants must understand that GDS are not regular employees of the Department or Central Government. They are holders of Civil Posts outside the regular Civil Services and their service conditions are governed by the Department of Posts Gramin Dak Sevaks Conduct and Engagement Rules, 2020, as amended from time to time.

A GDS is generally required to work for a minimum of four hours and a maximum of five hours per day. A Sevak cannot be retained beyond 65 years of age and is required to have another source of income for adequate means of livelihood.

Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination Class 10 from a recognized Board with passing marks in Mathematics and English.

The applicant must also have studied the prescribed local language at least up to Class 10. Local-language eligibility varies according to the Postal Circle, State or Union Territory and the notified post.

Other mandatory requirements include knowledge of computers, knowledge of cycling and adequate means of livelihood. The prescribed declarations or undertakings are required at the appropriate engagement stage.

Application Fee: Rs. 100 for all posts notified in the applicant's selected Division.

All female applicants, SC, ST, PwBD and Transwomen applicants are exempt from application fee. Fee can be paid through the available online payment modes and is non-refundable once paid.

TRCA carries an annual increase of 3 percent subject to applicable conditions. GDS are also entitled to Dearness Allowance and certain other allowances and social-security benefits under the applicable GDS Rules.

There is no written examination and no interview for this GDS engagement.

Applicants will be shortlisted through a system-generated merit list based on Class 10 marks, calculated as a percentage up to four decimal places.

Where a Board awards grades or grade points, the system will calculate marks according to the conversion method prescribed in the notification. Candidates should enter marks, grades or points exactly as required by the online form and their Class 10 record.

For applicants whose result contains only grades, the prescribed grade-point conversion uses a multiplication factor of 9.5. Where CGPA is provided, the applicable system conversion is also performed according to the notification.

In case of a tie in merit, priority begins with Date of Birth, with the older applicant receiving preference, followed by the category and gender priority sequence prescribed by the Department.

Past experience or previous service does not provide additional marks or preference in preparation of the GDS merit list.

The application process consists of One-Time Registration followed by submission of the Online Application. Candidates must have their own active mobile number and email ID, which are verified through OTP.

Candidates are not required to upload Class 10, caste, EWS, PwBD or other certificates with the online form. Only a recent photograph and scanned signature are required to be uploaded.

Blurred or illegible photographs or signatures can lead to rejection. The applicant should verify the image preview before final submission.

An applicant can apply for eligible vacant posts in only one selected Division and should provide post preferences carefully. If shortlisted for more than one preferred post, only the highest eligible preference will be offered.

A shortlisted candidate must report to the designated Divisional or Unit Head for physical verification within 15 days from the date of shortlisting and carry applicable original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies.

After successful verification, a system-generated Offer of Provisional Engagement may be issued. Required pre-engagement formalities, including prescribed basic training and applicable accommodation arrangements, must normally be completed within 30 days from the offer.

The circle-wise vacancy compilation contains 23,757 vacancies for BPM, ABPM and Dak Sevak posts.

The consolidated circle-wise data shows North Eastern Circle with 2,614 vacancies, followed by Maharashtra Circle with 2,431 vacancies and Tamil Nadu Circle with 2,118 vacancies.

Online applications start on 02 September 2026. One-Time Registration begins on 31 August 2026.
